Complete Remodel in Bankers Hill

Original house: 1,983 Sq. Ft. This house went through so many owners and remodels through the years, by the time of our submittal, nobody knew what the original house looked like in 1907 when it was originally built. The house sits on a 24,484 Sq. Ft. lot with a beautiful canyon on the east side. The house is today a 2-story 4 bedrooms/4 bathrooms 2,342 Sq. Ft. house.

The original house, we found out later, was a bungalow style house with beautiful wood windows and built-ins. By the time we got involved, the house looked like the photo on the right. The roof pitch was changed for some reason and a system was designed to collect rain water and send it to a subterranean tank. The windows were aluminum sliders which we did not have at the beginning of the 19th century and they had a couple of sliding glass doors too. The exterior finishes and details were a horrible mix of styles that had nothing to do with each other. The look of the house was ugly and it lacked any sense of style.

What The Owners Wanted

The owners of this property were into minimalism and they wanted to create a very open floor plan with tall windows and a lot of light. They were very clear about what they wanted. We redesigned the floor plans of both levels and created very organic floor plans. We only added 350 Sq. Ft. on the north-west corner of the existing house and created a master bath via high ceilings/roof to block the view of the lap pool. The entire perimeter of the house was left intact so the remodel of the inside was total on both stories.

The result was accommodating to the owners' lifestyle and we were able to open up the house toward the canyon so the view could be enjoyed from the entire house.

What Was Built

The Front

Entry/Living Rm. Open Area

The entry into the house is at the end of a street, so the property is very secluded. This photo shows all you see from the street, almost nothing.

The entire first floor has vaulted ceilings and high windows which bring in a lot of light. The Living Rm. and the Dining Rm. are connected and have access to a balcony over looking the canyon.

This area is ideal for a nursery or a study. It could also be used as a home office or a gym. Two steps down is the MBath with a huge shower, two W.I.C. and beautiful custom made vanities.

The Master Bath is very open and behind the French Doors you find three steps that take you down into the lap pool.

Three steps down and you are in the water. The Lap Pool is very private and all you hear is the birds from the canyon.
